Fall VAR 2006

General Information

Fall VAR hosted by the VPI Cave Club will be held at the Glen Lyn Town Park in Giles County, Virginia on September 22-24, 2006.  Pre-registration is highly encouraged.  Please visit our website (www.cave.org.vt.edu/fallvar06) for more detailed information on dinner, music, vendors, trips, other fun outdoor activities, etc. as well as updates throughout the summer.  Below are a few of the particulars to better prepare you for this VAR. 

• Water: Drinking water will be available, but will be a short walk from camp.

• Bathrooms: The park has a small restroom facility that will be open for use.  Port-a-johns will also be located throughout our area.

• Food: Dinner on Saturday night will be OPTIONAL and will NOT have a vegetarion option.  You MUST pre-register if you want dinner Saturday night.

• Lawn Chairs: There are a limited number of picnic tables for Saturday's dinner and Sunday's meeting.

• Caving: Trips always fill up fast at VAR, so if you want to be guaranteed a spot on a caving trip be sure to pre-register.  Sign up sheets for led vertical and horizontal trips will be available online soon.  Pre-registered attendees will have first pick on caving trips.

Campground Rules

• Alcohol is prohibited in the park
• Fireworks are prohibited in the park.
• After 11:00pm is considered quiet hours in the park.
• Pets are fine as long as they are on a leash at all times.

Attendees must pre-register for dinner Saturday night (no vegetarian option available)

Pre-registration forms must be postmarked by September 4, 2006.

You may also pre-register at OTR at the VPI tarp on Sunday.  Ask for Sam or Carrie.  Please pay with check.

Cost

Adult (18+) w/meal: $28, w/o meal: $15

Children (4-17) w/meal: $25, w/o meal: $12

Babies (Under 3): Free

Cost after Sept. 4

Saturday Night Dinner

The menu will include, but not limited to:

Refreshing beverages including sodas, lemonade, and ice tea.

Appetizing vegetable trays with dip.

Juicy pork sandwiches.

Creamy cole slaw.

A must try green bean salad.

Variety of desserts.

Sunday Breakfast

FRG will be back this year with their Sunday Pancake Breakfast for an additional fee of $4 per person

Cord: +37° 22' 20.82", -80° 51' 31.79" (37.37245, -80.85883)

• Traveling South on I-81: Take exit 118B.  Stay left on exit ramp towards Blackburg and merge onto Route 460 West.  Follow Route 460 West approximately 45 miles to the Town of Glen Lyn.  The park is on the left just before you go over the New River.  If you reach the West Virginia State Line you’ve gone too far.
• Traveling North on I-81: Take I-77 North (Exit 72) in Wytheville.  Follow I-77 into West Virginia and take Route 460 East (Exit 9) in Princeton.  Follow Route 460 East approximately 15 miles into Virginia.  As soon as you go over the New River (less than a mile) turn right into the park. 
• Traveling North/South on I-77: Take Route 460 East (Exit 9) in Princeton.  Follow Route 460 East approximately 15 miles into Virginia.  As soon as you go over the New River (less than a mile) turn right into the park.
