Cave Club Email Lists

Club Discussion List

The VPI Cave Club has an e-mail discussion list. This list is run using the Listserv software hosted by Virginia Tech. Topics discussed on the list include caves, cavers, caving events, caving news, caving techniques, VPI Cave Club information, and other "stuff". Generally the information on this list a specific to the club and not very interesting to people not involved with the club. Of course they subscribe anyway.

Subscribe to the Discussion List

Send an email to: listserv@listserv.vt.edu

In the body of the message enter: subscribe cave-club [Your Name]

Replace [Your Name] in the message with your actual name, including your first name and last name. Do not include the brackets. You can also include a middle name or initial if you wish.

Example: subscribe cave-club A.I. Cartwright

You will recieve an automatic email confimation of your application to the list. Before you are completely subscribed, you must respond to the confirmation email so we know you are not a spammer. Once the list admin adds you to the list, you will recieve a welcome message and some basic instructions about how to do things like remove yourself from the list either permanently or temporarily, and how to use the list.

Send a Message to the Discussion List

Send an email to: cave-club@listserv.vt.edu

It will be sent to all current members of the cave-club list. Please send only messages of interest specifically to the VPI Cave Club.

Suspend Emails from the List Temporarily

Use the "nomail" option if you want to halt emails from the list temporarily while on vacation, etc. This way, you won't have to resubscribe later.

Send an email to: listserv@listserv.vt.edu

To halt emails: in the body of the message enter: set cave-club nomail

To resume receiving emails: in the body of the message enter: set cave-club mail

Unsubscribe to the Discussion List Permanently

Send an email to: listserv@listserv.vt.edu

In the body of the message enter: signoff cave-club

Club Announcement List

Another moderated list exists for really important announcements without all the chatter on the other list. The regular Cave Club listserv receives email sent to this list, so you do not need to subscribe to both.

To subscribe, follow the instructions above but your message should say: subscribe cave-club-announce [Your Name]

To send a message to the list, send an email to cave-club-announce@listserv.vt.edu

To unsubscribe, follow the instructions above but your message should say: signoff cave-club-announce

Please note that attachments are not permitted on either listserv. If you have something you would like to contribute, you may send your attachment to the Discussion List Administrator. The admin will add the document to the club website and give you a link to provide in your message to the listserv.
